Large Boulder Closes Beolière Road and Damages PUC Water Pipeline
VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Disaster Risk Management Division (DRMD) has confirmed that a large boulder detached from a slope and struck the main road between Beolière and Port Glaud at approximately 7.05am on Monday, damaging the road surface and a Public Utilities Corporation (PUC) water pipeline.
The incident forced a full road closure for several hours, with police and the Seychelles Land Transport Agency (SLTA) deployed to the scene. SLTA contractors cleared the debris while police directed traffic, and PUC teams worked from the morning to restore water supply to affected households. By 1pm, supply was being progressively reconnected.
Sub Inspector Julinio Nourrice of the Police Public Relations and Corporate Image Unit said the Beolière road leading to Port Glaud was partially open at 5.30pm, with traffic flowing in one lane towards town while the lane leading to Port Glaud remained cordoned off. The DRMD said slope monitoring is ongoing to ensure public safety, and precautionary measures are being taken in coordination with all relevant authorities.
The Division is urging the public to exercise caution when using the road and to follow instructions issued by police officers on site, as well as official media updates. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time while repairs continue.
