Au Ced Community Joins Global Clean Up the World Initiative
VICTORIA, Seychelles — Residents of Au Ced in Baie Lazare joined millions of people around the world on the weekend in taking part in the annual Clean Up the World initiative, making a stand against environmental neglect in their community.
Led by Baie Lazare’s eco-leaders Gina and Sue together with a group of environmentally conscious young volunteers, the clean-up focused on areas heavily affected by littering and illegal dumping. Volunteers cleared hillsides strewn with bin bags, bottles and cans, and collected sweet wrappers and crisp packets carelessly discarded along roadsides.
‘Fly-tipping continues to be a challenge in this community,’ the eco-leaders noted. ‘But events like this show that when we work together, we can make a real difference.’ The initiative is part of a wider global campaign that encourages individuals and communities to take responsibility for their local environments, with organisers hoping the activity will not only beautify the area but also raise awareness about the long-term impact of littering.
Residents are being urged to dispose of waste responsibly and to make use of designated rubbish bins to help keep Baie Lazare clean and safe for everyone. The Baie Lazare district administration thanked the volunteers and partners who took part in the weekend exercise.
