Ten Students Depart for Cultural Exchange Visit to Japan
VICTORIA, Seychelles — Ten students from Seychelles are set to engage in an active cultural exchange programme between Seychelles and Japan. They received their travel documents yesterday morning during a brief ceremony held at the Seychelles Institute of Teacher Education (SITE) auditorium, alongside four teachers who will accompany them.
The students are Gregg Mondon, Miah Morel, Raisha Gabriel, Anaelle Barra, Elly Leon, Hezron Jean, Rheeya Labrosse, Danille Joaneau, Leah Ah-Time and Nelson Charlse Hernandez. Following the recent exchange visit by students from Japan to the Anse Royale secondary, English River secondary and International School Seychelles earlier this year, it has been officially announced that students from Seychelles will also have the opportunity to visit Japan. These same schools were tasked with selecting students for the trip, with four from Anse Royale secondary, four from English River secondary and two from International School Seychelles.
Mariette Esparon, principal education officer for secondary education, who will be one of the teachers accompanying the students, said the initiative was commendable as it provides Seychellois students with the opportunity to experience diverse cultures and traditions. She noted that the trip will encompass a variety of educational visits, highlighting historical and cultural sites. The journey is generously funded by both the Japanese and Seychelles governments, with the Japanese government covering all tickets and accommodation. The head teacher of Anse Royale secondary, Berguitta Labonte, who is also accompanying the students, expressed her enthusiasm about visiting Japan again, particularly for the Japan World Expo 2025 with the theme ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives’. The ambassador from Japan to Seychelles, Makoto Sakuta, and the principal secretary for Education Services, Merna Eulentin, were present at the ceremony.
