Seychelles Launches CERT-SC to Lead National Cyber Threat Response
VICTORIA, Seychelles — The newly established National Computer Emergency Response Team of Seychelles, CERT-SC, was officially launched by the Department of Information Communications Technology to serve as the country’s frontline for analysing and monitoring cyber threats, sharing intelligence, raising public awareness, and coordinating national responses to cybersecurity incidents. The launch ceremony was attended by Commissioner of Police Ted Barbe and other key stakeholders.
Speaking at the launch, Mr Choppy, Director of the National Information Sharing and Coordination Centre, NISCC, said cyber threats are constantly getting more sophisticated and more frequent, making it difficult for any single organisation to keep up. By analysing threats across the nation, CERT-SC aims to spot attack patterns and warn the nation before they cause any major damage. He added that having a coordinated national response is no longer a luxury, noting that cyber threats do not respect borders, and the team is equally committed to fostering a culture of cybersecurity awareness.
CERT-SC will serve as the central coordinator for national-level response, should it be required, and will begin with core functions such as threat intelligence gathering, incident reporting, coordination of national responses, and stakeholder collaboration. To maintain readiness, CERT-SC will conduct regular cyber drills, similar to fire drills, to test national preparedness for major cyber incidents. Mr Choppy concluded by calling for cross-sector support: “Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility; government, private sector, and citizens must all play their part.”
