Plastic Odyssey Exhibition Opens at Alliance Française des Seychelles

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Plastic Odyssey, a unique ambassador vessel for a three-year global expedition aimed at reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainable solutions, is hosting an exhibition at the Alliance Française des Seychelles during its 15-day stopover in the Indian Ocean region. The exhibition, which is open to the public, showcases the project’s work on locally adaptable plastic recycling solutions, low-cost processing machines, and educational materials developed for communities most affected by plastic pollution.

The exhibition forms part of the ‘Expedition Plastic Indian Ocean’ (ExPLOI) project, a regional campaign launched by the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) in partnership with Plastic Odyssey. The vessel docked in Victoria on May 29 and will remain in Seychelles until June 13. The visit comes at a particularly relevant time, as the country prepares to mark World Environment Day on June 5 under the theme ‘Ending plastic pollution’.

The exhibition is expected to be of strong interest to school groups, environmental organisations, and members of the public who wish to learn more about how small island developing states like Seychelles can tackle the plastic waste crisis. Visitors will be able to engage with members of the Plastic Odyssey crew, view demonstrations of the project’s recycling equipment, and learn about the practical steps being taken around the Indian Ocean region to reduce marine plastic pollution. Entrance is free.
