IECD Launches Early Learning Programme for Home-Based Childcare

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Institute of Early Childhood Development (IECD) has officially launched its pioneering Early Stimulation and Learning Programme for home-based child care services, at a ceremony held on Saturday at the STC conference room. The programme is designed to strengthen Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) nationwide, with a strong emphasis on developmentally appropriate, play-based activities that are culturally relevant and engaging.

According to the IECD, the programme targets child care providers operating from their own homes, an important segment of the early childhood sector that has historically received less structured support than centre-based providers. The programme will provide training, materials, and ongoing mentorship to help providers deliver high-quality stimulation and learning experiences for children in their care.

The launch was attended by representatives of partner agencies, child care providers, and parents. The IECD said the programme also promotes environmental awareness and community participation, reflecting a holistic approach to early childhood development. The institute said it expects to roll out the programme to all districts over the coming months, and to monitor the impact on children’s school readiness and wellbeing.
