Seychelles Tuna Conference Highlights Industry’s Role in the Blue Economy
VICTORIA, Seychelles — In celebration of World Tuna Day, the Ministry of Fisheries and the Blue Economy, in partnership with the Seychelles Investment Board, hosted the Seychelles Tuna Conference at the Savoy Resort and Spa, bringing together leading figures from the seafood industry. Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment Flavien Joubert and Minister for Fisheries and the Blue Economy Jean-François Ferrari were among the speakers.
As one of the world’s busiest tuna transhipment and processing hubs, Seychelles plays a key role in the global tuna value chain. Government officials noted that the tuna industry is a major contributor to the country’s exports, providing training for locals in the sector, and ensuring economic, environmental and cultural stability. ‘Seychelles is recognised globally for its tuna industry, and the World Tuna Day celebration confirms our commitment to industry stakeholders and resource development,’ Minister Ferrari said.
Participants also used the platform to discuss responsible fishing practices, value addition, and the country’s strategic role in the blue economy. The conference further reinforced the government’s commitment to work with industry partners to promote a sustainable and competitive tuna sector in Seychelles.
