National Institute of Health Launches Red Cross Club Among Student Body

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS) has taken a significant step in revitalising the Red Cross Club within schools across Seychelles. As part of this initiative, a special induction session was held at the National Institute of Health and Social Studies (NIHSS) on Friday, March 7, for students who expressed an interest in joining the club.

The session, which took place at the NIHSS campus in Mont Fleuri and was attended by over 70 learners, was mainly focused on establishing a Red Cross Club within the institution. Through an anonymous voting process, Rudy Flore was elected as chairperson, Beverly Quatre as vice-chairperson, Jade Faure as secretary and Shamelaah Labrosse as treasurer, along with three additional ordinary members — Jada Louise, Frances Memee and Anthony.

NIHSS Red Cross Committee chairperson Rudy Flore, also an active RCSS volunteer, shared her experiences, highlighting how the Red Cross Club has provided her with opportunities to engage in humanitarian work, including disaster response efforts in December 2016, community outreach programmes and various standby duties. The objectives of the new club are to promote awareness of Red Cross principles and values among students, provide opportunities for training in first aid, psychosocial support and disaster response, encourage active community involvement, support RCSS initiatives, and foster leadership and teamwork. The RCSS remains committed to empowering young individuals to contribute positively to society through meaningful volunteer work and humanitarian initiatives.
