UAE Donates R14.4 Million in Medical Supplies to Strengthen Health Sector

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Seychelles government is to receive R14.4 million worth of medical supplies from the United Arab Emirates, further strengthening the country’s medical provisions and equipment. The donation follows an initial batch of 10 containers of personal protective equipment valued at R2.2 million, with the second batch arriving mid-February comprising four containers of hypodermic needles, syringes and other medical instruments valued at R6 million.

A third batch is expected shortly, consisting of four containers of intensive care unit (ICU) ventilators, medical beds and other instruments valued at R2 million, plus a container of medicines valued at R4.2 million. The handover ceremony for the second batch took place at the Seychelles Hospital in the presence of Health Minister Peggy Vidot and Dr Danny Louange, chief executive of the Health Care Agency. Chargé d’affaires of the UAE embassy in Seychelles, Ahmed Alneyadi, pledged that 20 containers in total will be donated under the Sheikh Khalifa Foundation initiative.

Mr Alneyadi said the donations are a testament to the strong bond of friendship and partnership in bridging gaps in healthcare provision, and that they will directly benefit countless individuals who may have otherwise faced challenges in accessing timely and quality treatment. He expressed his best wishes to the dedicated doctors, nurses, healthcare staff and other medical practitioners for their tireless efforts in ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to receive the best medical care in Seychelles.
