President Ramkalawan Urges Women to Take Ownership of Their Health on International Women’s Day

VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Wavel Ramkalawan has urged all women — young and less young — to take responsibility and ownership of their health. In his message on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the President emphasised that change in lifestyle, with physical activities and the right diet, is crucial and primordial in ensuring that women live long and active lives.

The full text of the President’s message reads: ‘International Women’s Day — March 8 — provides us with a unique opportunity each year to join with the rest of the world to highlight, recognise and celebrate women. This year, we commemorate International Women’s Day with the national theme ‘Accelerate Action for Women’s Health, Wellness and Well-being’. As we look at different ways to tackle non-communicable diseases, we acknowledge that there is a need to look at what affects women and men differently.’

The President added: ‘On International Women’s Day, we take time to recognise the different challenges women face on a daily basis, where their health is concerned. As a nation, let us reflect and pledge on how we can continuously work together, innovate, and support the health sector for women’s physical and mental health, as well as their general wellbeing. While we, as a nation, accelerate action for women’s health, I urge all women to take responsibility and ownership of their health. Again this year, I wish all of them a happy and blessed day.’
