International Tour Guides Day Celebrated at Seychelles Botanical Garden

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Department of Tourism hosted a special event at the Botanical Garden on Friday to commemorate International Tour Guides Day, celebrated globally on or near February 21 each year. The event featured an engaging interaction with well-known tour guide and entertainer Francis Aglae, who was awarded the prestigious Hospitality Award last year.

The gathering brought together 30 pupils from the Lospitalite Lafyerte Sesel clubs of ten different schools across the country. The day was filled with exciting moments as primary school pupils eagerly interacted with Mr Aglae, asking questions that reflected their curiosity about the world of tour guiding. He invited three of the pupils to act as tour guides, which they did marvelously well. The event concluded on a lively note, with an entertaining musical performance and a guided tour of the Botanical Garden led by Mr Aglae himself.

Speaking about the significance of the event, Marie-Julie Stephen from the Department of Tourism said it was organised in collaboration with Lospitalite Lafyerte Sesel. In Seychelles, there are currently 108 licensed tour guides, including those based on Praslin and La Digue. To become a licensed tour guide, an individual must complete a Tour Guiding course offered by the Seychelles Tourism Academy, and licences are granted by the Seychelles Licensing Authority.
