Seniors Review District Operating Guidelines

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The district operating guideline for senior citizens, launched back in 2001 by the Ministry for Local Government and Community Affairs, is being reviewed and updated following a workshop hosted by the Seniors Citizens of Seychelles at the Anse Etoile community centre. The district guideline is a standard operating procedure for district clubs, developed by senior citizens in accordance with the active ageing principle.

The goal of the workshop, the first of its kind, was to make the guideline suitable for new members at all levels in their particular areas and to enable them to meet peers for an educational endeavour to become familiar with the materials in the guide. The event also aimed to empower participants to share the updated material within their respective districts.

Chairperson of the Seniors Citizens of Seychelles, Germaine Gill, said the workshop was not only to educate the participants, but also to empower them to share the updated material within their respective districts. The review is the first major update of the guideline since its launch 24 years ago and reflects changing demographics and the growing number of senior citizens’ clubs across the country. The updated document is expected to be circulated to all district clubs once the review is complete.
