British High Commission Honours Nine Women for Climate Work

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The British High Commission has honoured nine Seychellois women for their work in environmental leadership, at a Women in Environment and Climate Finance forum held at the Hilton DoubleTree yesterday. The event brought together national and international experts to promote dialogue, collaboration and knowledge-sharing on gender-responsive climate finance and environmental action.

The awardees were Helena Sims, Marie-May Jeremie, Frauke Fleischer-Dogley, Caroline Abel, Alvania Lawen, Marie-Therese Purvis, Axelle Bodwell, Preethi Sushil Nair and Indira Gamatis. They were recognised for their contributions to climate action, sustainable finance, biodiversity, conservation and environmental policy development. The British High Commissioner to Seychelles, Jeff Glekin, said women are at the heart of the fight against climate change.

The forum featured expert presentations, panel discussions and roundtable debates, providing a comprehensive overview of Seychelles’ climate finance landscape and opportunities to mobilise sustainable funding. The recognition ceremony marked a significant step in acknowledging the role of women in driving environmental change and strengthening Seychelles’ climate resilience. The UK reaffirmed its commitment to supporting gender-inclusive climate solutions and building stronger partnerships for a sustainable future.
