Seychelles Postal Service Condemns Verbal Abuse Against Its Staff

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Seychelles postal sector has urged its clients to be respectful and non-violent towards its employees, stating it does not condone abuse of any kind. The postal service issued the urgent notice last week following several reports of verbal abuse against its staff, the agency’s public relations officer Meryl Esparon told this newspaper. The notice was issued to remind customers of the standards of behaviour expected in postal offices.

Ms Esparon said the agency is not suggesting that this is a recurring issue, however in the instances that it has happened, the behaviour was quite alarming. She explained that in such cases the agency’s first step was to assess the situation in order to keep their clients satisfied, but customers had still come back with the same abusive temper. Customers are demanding to have their way even in circumstances where their package is not yet ready, she added.

The postal service has also encountered instances where customers have become aggressive to the extent of even threatening staff. The point of the public notice is to provide a safe and more comforting environment for both staff and customers. The agency has said the safety of its workers is a priority and will not be compromised under any circumstances.

The postal service has reported receiving positive feedback from customers regarding the notice. Many clients have also delivered some constructive criticism, which the agency does not take lightly. The postal service said it takes all steps to keep both staff and customers happy, and that mutual respect is a key part of good service delivery.

The agency is advising customers to make use of the suggestion box at its office in town, and the website for all complaints and queries, so that the postal service can ensure good service delivery at all times. The management has reiterated its commitment to providing a safe and comfortable environment for both staff and customers in the months ahead, and will continue to monitor the situation closely.
