Victoria Health Clinic Unveils Country’s First MRI Centre in Anse Etoile

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Victoria Health Clinic in Anse Etoile has officially opened the country’s first Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) centre, in a ceremony led by President Patrick Herminie on Thursday afternoon.

The state-of-the-art equipment, which uses magnetic fields to generate detailed images of internal anatomy and physiological processes, was acquired at a cost of over US $400,000 through a partnership with the Indian-based Nivaran Group of Health Services. Speaking at the launch, the clinic’s director, Daniella Payet, said the new service will strengthen collaboration with the Ministry of Health, significantly enhance diagnostic capabilities, reduce waiting lists, and enable faster treatment for patients who would otherwise have to travel overseas.

Dr Himanshu Gupta, co-director of the clinic, noted that the MRI is part of a US $2 million investment programme the clinic has undertaken since 2020 to expand and grow its services. He also revealed plans for a new inpatient room to cater for more patients and to serve residents from nearby islands.

President Herminie commended the clinic for the bold investment, saying that expanding diagnostic capacity within the private sector will ease pressure on existing services and provide citizens with more options, shorter waiting times, and better access to essential imaging. The cost of an MRI session has been set at R3,500, covering both adults and children.
