Seychelles Interfaith Council Holds Prayer Service for Peaceful Elections
VICTORIA, Seychelles — On the eve of the general elections, the Seychelles Interfaith Council (SIFCO) organised an interfaith prayer service for peaceful elections at St Paul’s Cathedral in Victoria on Thursday, bringing together leaders of different religious traditions in a shared call for calm and unity.
The service comes at a crucial moment in the country’s political calendar, with the Presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for September 25-27, 2025. Religious leaders used the occasion to urge citizens, candidates and supporters to remain peaceful before, during and after the vote, and to remember that the bonds of community extend beyond party lines.
Speaking after the service, SIFCO representatives said prayers and reflections of this kind form a regular part of the council’s work, but take on added meaning during election periods. They appealed to all Seychellois to approach the campaign with respect, to refrain from hate speech, and to allow the democratic process to unfold without violence or intimidation.
SIFCO also encouraged voters to participate actively and conscientiously in the elections, framing the vote as both a civic duty and a contribution to the nation’s continued peace and stability. The council pledged to remain engaged in the post-election period to support national cohesion.
