VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Mont Fleuri district administration office, in partnership with the Family department, yesterday hosted a Retirement Planning workshop aimed at individuals preparing for retirement from both the public and private sectors, as well as those who recently retired.
The event took place at the National Council for Children’s conference room, attracting participants from the Mont Fleuri district. Under the theme ‘Psychological Readiness for Life’s Next Chapter’, the workshop sought to assist participants in developing a customised retirement roadmap, breaking down goals into actionable steps, and to comprehend the broader advantages of early retirement planning, including financial security, improved health, opportunities for travel, and the exploration of new career paths.
Steve Noel, the district administrator for Mont Fleuri, explained that the workshop’s aim is to prepare soon-to-be retirees for the next phase of their lives. ‘We conduct regular pastoral visits in our district and have come to realise that many individuals are nearing retirement without adequate retirement plans,’ he said. He added that many face challenges such as depression, dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease, often without appropriate care from their family members, while some also face financial difficulties.
Workshop facilitator and professional counsellor Naomi Vidot said the session highlights the importance of having a retirement plan, with selected participants aged 60 and above. The themes covered included identity, purpose, and emotional readiness during the transition into retirement. The workshop is set to continue next year, targeting a younger group of people.
