VICTORIA, Seychelles — A 72-year-old man from Salazie, Praslin, died on Friday afternoon after being caught in a house fire in the same area. The incident occurred at a residential property in the locality and has been classified by the police as a tragic accident, with the victim sustaining severe burns. He was the only occupant of the house at the time of the blaze.
According to initial reports gathered by police at the scene, neighbours raised the alarm after spotting smoke and flames coming from the property. The Seychelles Fire and Rescue Service responded promptly, but by the time the flames were brought under control, the house had been completely destroyed. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have since launched a detailed investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Officers from the Praslin police station were deployed to the area, and a forensic examination of the site is expected to be carried out in the coming days.
