My First Job Scheme Marks 10 Years with Awards and Expansion Plans

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs is celebrating the ten-year milestone of the My First Job Scheme. During a ceremony held at the Eden Bleu Hotel yesterday afternoon, the ministry recognised several individuals who had followed the programme, with Edelle Crispin receiving the overall best excellence award from President Wavel Ramkalawan.

Ms Crispin, who began her career as a teller at the Mauritius Commercial Bank Seychelles in 2015, has risen to become Branch Operations Supervisor and is currently undergoing training to step into the role of Branch Operations Manager. “I wasn’t expecting it, but I can say that I am very proud of myself. It shows that my hard work over the past ten years has paid off,” she said. Five other individuals received the excellence award: Aeron Vielle, Karyne Maillet, Jessica Farabeau, Sabina Esther and Dean Marie.

Speaking at the event, Minister Patricia Francourt announced that the scheme, which has placed 4,595 participants into employment since its inception in 2015, will be expanded to cater to more youth. “As of 2026, the programme will not be limited to graduates from professional centres as it is now, but will be extended to university graduates.” She also announced that the government will look into subsidising graduates’ monthly salary for a period of six months, with between 130 and 140 graduates from the university expected to join. Seven organisations received loyalty awards, including Eden Bleu, MCB Seychelles, Creole Travel Services, Mahé Shipping, Inconek, Ascent Project Seychelles Limited and Zil Air.
