Seychelles National Choir Raises R123,600 for New Hospital
VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Seychelles National Choir raised R123,600 for the New Seychelles Hospital during a recent fundraising concert held at State House. The donation was handed over to the Head of State, President Wavel Ramkalawan, who expressed his gratitude towards the National Choir for bringing forth the initiative and complimented the choir on their singing. The event was the result of a collaboration between the Office of the President and the National Arts and Crafts Council.
According to chorist and organiser Terrence Gomme, the plan has been in the making since last year. “As a choir, we constantly strive to assist the population, particularly through fundraising activities. Our intention was to host the event at the State House, as it is a venue that many would desire to visit for a prestigious occasion,” he said. He added that the day was a race against time to sell all the tickets, but in the end it was a sold-out show.
The choir is known for its diverse and culturally rich selection in music, singing a variety of different song genres ranging from Creole, French, Gospel, English and Chinese Classics. As a result of their performance, four of their chorists will be representing Seychelles in the Chengdu International Sister Cities Music Festival this July. In addition to the choir performance, the attendees were also graced by Billy and Erica Rangasamy, John Vital, and gospel artist Jean Ally.
