President Ramkalawan Calls for Justice and Unity on Africa Day

VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Wavel Ramkalawan has used his message for Africa Day 2025 to call for a renewed collective resolve to pursue justice, celebrate unity, and build a continent where every generation can rise and flourish. Africa Day, observed on May 25, marks 62 years since the founding of the Organisation of African Unity, now the African Union.

“Today, as we commemorate Africa Day 2025, we mark 62 years since the founding of the Organisation of African Unity, a bold and visionary act by our forebears in the pursuit of unity, dignity, and self-determination for all Africans,” President Ramkalawan said in his message. “Justice is not a dream, but a lived reality. On this Africa Day, may we renew our collective resolve to pursue justice, celebrate unity, and build a continent where every generation can rise and flourish. Happy Africa Day!”

Vice-President Dr Patrick Herminie, who also marked the day in a separate message, said Africa Day is a profound reflection of Seychellois identity, heritage, and the unbreakable bonds with the diverse nations of the continent. “For Seychellois, Africa Day is not just a continental observance; it is a profound reflection of our own identity, our heritage, and our unbreakable bonds with the diverse nations that make up this incredible landmass,” he said, calling on all Seychellois to reinforce the bonds of fraternity and to work hand-in-hand for a brighter future for Seychelles and the African continent.
