Seychelles Basketball Federation Disciplines HotShots Players
VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Seychelles Basketball Federation (SBF) has issued strong formal warnings to four players and a two-match ban to another, following an incident in the national basketball league. The recipients of the strong formal warnings are Beguita Fontaine, Jennifer Lebon, Tina Agathine and Zerra Fontaine, while Sherifa Agathine has been slapped with a two-match ban.
The warning letters state that the players’ conducts were not only disrespectful but also unbecoming of registered players with the SBF, adding that, while the SBF understands that the passion and emotion of the game can sometimes lead to heightened tensions, there is no excuse for behaviour that brings the sport into disrepute. The federation also said that it is investigating further incidents and that further disciplinary action may follow.
The club at the centre of the disciplinary action, HotShots, has since hit back, denying that its players received warning letters. The club explained that they were aware of the incident, which happened two months ago, and they were expecting disciplinary actions, but not on match-day. The club also claimed that the emails were specifically addressed to Atilla Cadence and Philip Arissol, and that the statement made is entirely false and misleading. The SBF said it would continue to engage with all clubs to ensure that the league is conducted in a fair and respectful manner.
