Grand Anse Praslin School Tops Medals Table at Primary Schools’ Championships

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Grand Anse Praslin school finished atop the medals table at the 45th edition of the National Primary Schools’ Championships held in Grand Anse, Praslin, with eleven medals, including seven gold, three silver and one bronze. The young athletes, from both state and private schools, competed in a range of track and field events over the three days of competition.

The championships, organised by the Department of Sports in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Family, brought together more than 1,000 pupils from across Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. Officials said the event provided an important opportunity to identify young talent and to encourage greater participation in athletics from an early age. The organising committee thanked the host school, the sponsors, and the teachers and parents who contributed to the smooth running of the championships.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the chief guest congratulated all the participants and reminded them that sport is about more than medals. “The championships are about discovering yourself, making friends, and learning the value of discipline and teamwork.” The next edition of the championships is expected to return to Mahé in 2026, with the Department of Sports already inviting schools to begin preparations. Individual standout performers from the 2025 edition will be invited to join the national age-group athletics programme, in line with the ministry’s long-term talent identification strategy.
