Patient Solidarity Workshop Teaches Healthy Cooking Skills to Twenty Women
VICTORIA, Seychelles
The healthy cooking session followed the first workshop, which focused on savvy shopping and equipped participants with practical skills to stretch their grocery budgets without compromising on nutrition. The programme forms part of a national nutrition project funded by the Ministry of Finance National Grant Scheme.
During the workshop, the women broke into small groups and got to work. They transformed fresh local produce such as karang and eggplant along with foreign items like carrots and couscous into colourful, aromatic dishes. They added a drizzle of healthy oils here, a sprinkle of herbs there. After cooking, each group plated their creations restaurant-style, paying close attention to recommended portion sizes. Then came the tasting. Forks raised, smiles wide, the women sampled their own cooking, offering gentle feedback to one another in an atmosphere that was both proud and convivial.
Patient Solidarity held the workshop series under its nationwide nutrition project. The project aims to benefit approximately three hundred women across Mahé, Praslin and La Digue through a series of hands-on sessions that promote nutrition awareness, health education and community empowerment. The programme will now move to other regions in the coming weeks.
A representative from the organisation expressed delight at the strong turnout and the enthusiasm shown by participants. It is inspiring to see women taking active steps to improve their health and that of their families, coordinator Betty-May Bibi said. The association extends special thanks to Marie-Anne Payet, principal of English River secondary school, for graciously hosting the workshops.
Patient Solidarity encourages participants to share what they have learned with their neighbours and loved ones, creating a ripple effect of healthier eating habits across communities. Organisers urge other women across Seychelles not to miss this opportunity. Women can register for upcoming workshops by calling 2539925.
