VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Great Battle of the Crown reached a thrilling conclusion on Saturday at the International Conference Centre Seychelles, with 15-year-old Abdel Assary emerging as overall champion and People’s Choice Award winner.

The grand finale brought together six outstanding finalists, each delivering passionate performances before a panel of judges including British High Commissioner Jeff Glekin, UK artist Josh Daniel, and local artists Isham Rath and Taniah. Abdel secured not only the coveted crown but also the People’s Choice Award thanks to overwhelming support from audiences on Facebook and Instagram.

Joining Abdel at the top were Lauren Leon, who claimed second place and the judges’ ranking whilst also earning second place in the People’s Choice category, and Chloe Abrams, who secured third place. Both were praised for their growth and artistry, with Lauren expressing pride in her journey and ambitions to release more singles and possibly an album, whilst Chloe was commended for her transformation from a shy performer to a confident finalist.

Abdel’s journey will now continue abroad as he travels to London within the coming week to begin a new chapter in his music career. Judges noted that his consistent performances throughout the competition and his ability to connect with both judges and the public made him a standout contestant.

Judge Taniah reflected on the high standard of talent displayed, emphasising the importance of platforms like this in showcasing Seychellois creativity. She stated these opportunities allow young artists to spread their wings and gain recognition.

The event capped off Seychelles’ largest national music competition, organised in partnership with the British High Commission and the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation, which challenged contestants to reinterpret iconic British songs in their own unique style.
