Minister Alexander Tackles Staff Concerns at Six Senses Zil Pasyon

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Minister for Employment and Human Resource Planning, Idith Alexander, visited Six Senses Zil Pasyon on Félicité Island on Friday, May 15, 2026, as part of her weekly ministerial outreach programme. The visit began with a meeting between the ministerial delegation and staff members, who openly shared concerns about their working conditions.

Key issues raised included low salaries, particularly the basic pay structure, overtime without proper compensation, lack of affordable shop services on-site, and disorganised split shifts affecting work-life balance. Despite these challenges, Minister Alexander noted with satisfaction that many employees expressed overall happiness with their work environment. She highlighted the significant number of long-serving staff members as evidence that locals are willing to work away from home when fair terms and conditions are provided.

The minister emphasised the importance of employees taking their responsibilities seriously, especially given the decline in visitor arrivals caused by the ongoing global crisis. She also encouraged management to strengthen collaboration with staff, urging both sides to engage in constructive dialogue and jointly identify solutions to the challenges raised. Improvements are expected within a reasonable timeframe, particularly as a new general manager assumes office next month.

The visit reflects the government’s commitment to addressing workplace issues across the tourism sector, which remains vital to Seychelles’ economy. Minister Alexander’s outreach programme demonstrates a hands-on approach to labour relations, ensuring that worker grievances are heard at the highest levels of government.

The tourism sector employs a significant portion of the Seychellois workforce, making labour relations in this industry particularly important for national economic stability. The minister’s intervention at Six Senses Zil Pasyon serves as a signal to other employers about the government’s expectations for fair treatment of workers.

The Ministry of Employment and Human Resource Planning continues to monitor developments at the resort and expects implementation of agreed improvements.
