Seychellois Mountaineer Conquers Mauritius Peaks in Relentless Climbing Journey

Seychellois mountaineer Catherine Rose is proving that limits are meant to be pushed, not respected.

Fresh off her successful expedition in Uganda’s Rwenzori Mountains earlier this year, Rose has now taken on a new challenge in Mauritius, climbing some of the island’s most demanding and iconic peaks during the Easter holiday.

Her latest achievements include summiting Trois Mamelles, reaching around 600 metres, tackling the technically challenging Pieter Both at 820 metres, and conquering Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire, the highest point in Mauritius at 828 metres.

These climbs are not for the inexperienced. Rose emphasised that peaks like Pieter Both require technical skill and should never be attempted alone, while Trois Mamelles also demands prior hiking experience and preparation.

Beyond the physical challenge, the journey carried a deeper meaning. Rose highlighted the strong sense of connection and hospitality she experienced, noting that such expeditions help strengthen regional ties between Seychelles and neighbouring island nations.

Her growing list of achievements continues to inspire. From climbing Mount Kenya with her young daughter to conquering multiple peaks across East Africa, Rose is quietly building a legacy that places Seychelles on the global mountaineering map.

And if her current trajectory is anything to go by, she is far from finished.
