India and Seychelles Strengthen Strategic Partnership Following Raisina Dialogue

Building on the momentum of recent high-level engagements, India’s Minister of External Affairs, HE Dr. S. Jaishankar, met with his Seychelles counterpart, Ambassador Barry Faure, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, on the sidelines of the Raisina Dialogue.

The meeting served as a critical follow-up to the bilateral discussions initiated during the State visit of Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminie to India last February. It also reviewed preparations for the visit of Indian Prime Minister Modi to Seychelles to attend as chief guest at the 50th anniversary celebration of Seychelles Independence and the 50th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Seychelles and India on 29th June.

The two ministers reaffirmed their shared commitment to the timely implementation of strategic projects finalized during the President’s State visit. Key highlights of the ongoing collaboration include:

* Healthcare Infrastructure: Prioritizing the construction of a new hospital to bolster local medical services.

* Developmental Synergy: Commitment to additional agreed-upon projects aimed at enhancing Seychelles’ national infrastructure.

In addition to bilateral projects, the ministers exchanged views on the shifting landscape of regional and international affairs. Amidst ongoing global conflicts, they emphasized the specific vulnerabilities of Indian Ocean littoral states.

The dialogue underscored that strengthening ties and fostering deep collaboration among neighbouring countries is a vital necessity to:

* Mitigate emerging security and economic challenges.

* Promote long-term stability across the Indian Ocean region.
