Minister Faure receives Ambassador Tang of the Philippines

On Monday, 23 January 2026, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Mr Barry Faure, received H.E Ms. Marie Charlotte Tang, Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to the Republic of Seychelles, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy.

During their meeting, the two diplomats reviewed existing areas of bilateral cooperation and expressed their shared commitment to revitalising bilateral consultative meetings as a means of further strengthening relations between Seychelles and the Philippines. They also agreed to advance discussions on pending bilateral agreements, including the Visa Waiver Agreement and the Air Services Agreement, which would facilitate travel and enhance people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

The meeting also addressed the Philippines’ candidature for a Non-Permanent Seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2027–2028 term. In this context, Ambassador Tang highlighted her country’s key priorities, including peacebuilding, the empowerment of women, peace and security agenda, and climate security.

Minister Faure acknowledged the relevance of the priorities presented and noted that, while the issues raised are important and aligned with shared global concerns, Seychelles will carefully consider the candidature through its established review process.

The election for the Non-Permanent Seat on the United Nations Security Council is scheduled to take place in June 2026 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
