Seychelles Tourism Arrivals Decline 9.4 Percent in Early 2026

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychelles has begun 2026 with slower tourism arrivals, recording a tourism arrivals decline of 9.4 percent during the first two weeks compared to the same period in 2025. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, 10,884 visitors arrived year-to-date as of week two ending January 11, 2026.

This moderation matters to ordinary Seychellois because tourism underpins employment across hospitality, transport, and retail sectors. The slowdown affects foreign exchange earnings and government revenue that funds public services. Industry recovery will determine economic stability for thousands of families dependent on visitor spending.

Europe remains the core market, with Germany leading at 634 visitors, followed by France with 485, Italy with 291, and the United Kingdom with 248. Switzerland contributed 171 visitors and Austria 121. These figures fall short of the 12,014 arrivals registered during the corresponding period last year.

The moderated start follows a strong 2025 performance when total arrivals exceeded previous records, surpassing 385,000 visitors and contributing significantly to economic recovery. January typically sees seasonal fluctuations as post-holiday travel patterns shift and flight schedules vary.

Industry stakeholders remain cautiously optimistic, pointing to forward bookings, improved air connectivity, and ongoing marketing initiatives as potential drivers of momentum. Tourism continues to play a pivotal role in Seychelles’ economy, and sustained recovery will be essential for maintaining growth projections.

A sustained recovery in arrivals will be key to maintaining growth projections for 2026.
