Seychelles Among Seven Islands Driving Global Tourism Recovery

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychelles tourism has once again earned its place among the world’s premier island destinations, with the archipelago named among seven islands driving a surge in international travel during 2025. According to the multilingual travel media platform Travel and Tour World (TTW), Seychelles features alongside Baa Atoll in the Maldives, Bali, Mauritius, Hawaii, Santorini, and Fiji as part of a select group experiencing robust growth in visitor arrivals last year. The recognition comes as global tourism continued its strong recovery throughout 2025, fuelled by travellers seeking nature, relaxation, cultural connection, and quality experiences after years of pandemic-related uncertainty.

The significance of this recognition cannot be understated for a nation whose economy remains heavily dependent on visitor arrivals. Seychelles welcomed over 393,000 visitors in 2025, representing a 12 percent increase compared to 2024. While this growth is more moderate than some regional peers, it reflects steady demand and resilience in the sector that has long served as the backbone of the national economy. Tourism remains the primary driver of employment, small business development, and government revenue across the archipelago’s many islands.

TTW notes that island destinations are spearheading the global tourism rebound, with destinations offering peace, natural beauty, and authentic experiences over crowded city breaks. Within the competitive Indian Ocean region, Seychelles’ success underscores the importance of maintaining high standards in sustainability, quality, and air connectivity. The report highlights that these destinations recorded steady to strong growth, with island nations like Mauritius seeing 5-7 percent growth, Bali up 11.5-12 percent, and both Baa Atoll in the Maldives and Fiji achieving growth around 10 percent. Hawaii and Santorini recorded stable increases of 4-6 percent.

Seychelles’ enduring popularity reflects a broader global trend where travellers increasingly favour destinations offering peace, natural beauty, and authentic experiences over crowded city breaks. The archipelago’s appeal lies in its pristine beaches, rich biodiversity, and strong commitment to environmental protection. TTW describes the islands as offering “unparalleled experiences for both nature exploration and luxury relaxation,” a dual appeal that has helped Seychelles maintain its position despite global economic pressures affecting key markets like Europe and the United Kingdom.

The tourism arrival growth for island destinations reveals an exciting upward trend that will likely spur more sustainable tourism practices and further investment in infrastructure. The steady rise in arrivals is expected to further strengthen the foundation of the Seychellois economy, supporting jobs, small businesses, and national revenue. According to tourism analysts, continued growth could encourage greater investment in infrastructure and sustainable practices, ensuring destinations manage visitor numbers while safeguarding natural resources for future generations.

Seychelles stands as a testament to how natural beauty, environmental stewardship, and quality hospitality can sustain a thriving tourism economy in an increasingly crowded global marketplace.
