Malaysian honorary consul meets new agriculture minister and SIAH director

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Malaysian honorary consul, Kabilan Muniandy, has paid a courtesy visit to the minister responsible for agriculture, Wallace Cosgrow, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in agricultural education and capacity building.

The visit also served to introduce the new director of the Seychelles Institute of Agriculture and Horticulture (SIAH), Dr Barry Nourrice. Discussions focused on collaborative support and assistance to improve the institution’s curriculum, with a particular emphasis on modern farming techniques, hydroponics, and applied research.

Mr Kabilan provided an update on the collaborative support and training programmes designed to develop skilled professionals in the agricultural sector. Both sides reiterated their commitment to fostering meaningful partnerships aimed at developing agricultural technologies that will benefit students and farmers interested in participating in school programmes.

Mr Cosgrow expressed gratitude for the support and professional assistance received from the Malaysian consul and the various programmes. Dr Nourrice, the newly appointed director of SIAH, said that while technology-based cooperation with Quest International University and other Malaysian institutions remains important, such collaboration must not divert SIAH from its core mandate as a professional training institution.
