Seychelles Marks New Era for Mental Health Care with Expanded Services
VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychelles has entered a new era in mental health care, with expanded services aimed at strengthening support for individuals affected by mental health conditions and reducing the social stigma that continues to surround such illnesses.
Health authorities said the increased need for social support and reintegration services has prompted a broader approach to treatment, focusing not only on clinical care but also on helping affected individuals reintegrate safely into society.
Officials noted that the new framework places greater emphasis on community-based support, early intervention, and continuous follow-up for patients after discharge, in recognition of the wider social determinants of mental wellbeing.
The initiative is part of a national effort to modernise mental health services and ensure that care is delivered with dignity and respect, in line with international best practice.
