President and Health Minister Mark World Aids Day 2025 with Call to Transform Response

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychelles joined the global community on Monday in honouring all individuals living with HIV or Aids and those who have lost their lives to the disease, as President Dr Patrick Herminie issued a message marking World Aids Day 2025. This year’s theme, ‘Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the Aids Response’, is a call to make radical shifts in HIV programming and funding, the President said.

‘Despite significant progress over the decades, our work is far from complete. We must persevere, strengthen prevention efforts, and ensure our programmes are more resilient and effective than ever before,’ the President said. He paid tribute to the healthcare professionals, communities, and civil society whose dedication has brought the country to this point, and shared that his personal commitment to the cause is rooted in lived experience, having witnessed the pain and loss faced by Seychellois families during an era when HIV treatment was unavailable.

Separately, the Minister for Health, Dr Marvin Fanny, launched the month-long awareness activities at the Sheikh Khalifa auditorium at the Ministry of Health’s headquarters. The activities will focus on HIV prevention, education, and community engagement, with awareness raising on HIV, sexually transmitted infections, and viral hepatitis, the promotion of safer sex practices, HIV testing and early diagnosis, and engagement of workplaces, schools, and communities as partners in HIV prevention and education.
