Escaped Inmate Rodney Freminot Recaptured, Second Fugitive Still at Large

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Seychelles Prison Service has confirmed that inmate Rodney Freminot, an inhabitant of Anse Aux Pins who escaped from Montagne Posée prison earlier on Monday, has been recaptured and is now back in custody. A press release from the Seychelles Prison Service said Mr Freminot was apprehended late on Monday following a joint operation between the prison service and police.
The escape prompted a swift response from law enforcement agencies, with units deployed to the area to locate and detain the fugitive. The recapture came within hours of the escape, demonstrating the rapid response capacity of the security services. The Prison Service has commended the officers involved in the operation for their vigilance and professionalism.
A second inmate, Jefferson Marie, who had been reported as having escaped alongside Mr Freminot, remains at large. The Prison Service has issued an appeal to the public for any information that could assist in locating Mr Marie, and has urged anyone who sees him to contact the nearest police station. Security around the prison has also been reinforced in the wake of the incident.
An internal investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances that led to the escape, and to identify any lapses in procedure or oversight that may have contributed to the incident. The Prison Service said it is committed to ensuring the safety of the public and the security of its facilities, and will take all necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
