Foreign Dignitaries Confirmed for Sunday’s Inauguration of President-elect Dr Herminie

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the list of foreign dignitaries who will attend the hour-long inauguration ceremony of President-elect Dr Patrick Herminie, which will begin at 5.30pm on Sunday at the Stad Linite, Roche Caïman. The official programme will feature several key symbolic presentations, including a copy of the Constitution — the supreme law of the Republic — to the new Head of State, a sabre from the Chief of Defence Forces, Brigadier Michael Rosette, to the new Commander-in-Chief, and the Medal of the Republic, which will be presented by outgoing President Wavel Ramkalawan.

Attendees confirmed by the department of Foreign Affairs include the Vice President of India, Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan; the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Dr the Hon. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, GCSK, FRCP; the Asantehene of the Kingdom of Ashanti, Ghana, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II; the Prime Minister of Tanzania, Hon. Kassim Majaliwa Majaliwa; the President of the Council of Ministers of the Indian Ocean Commission; and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Union of Comoros, Mohamed Mbae, as well as the vice chairperson of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

The ceremony, which is open to the public, will officially mark the beginning of Dr Herminie’s five-year term in office. He was elected after defeating incumbent President Wavel Ramkalawan of the Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) party during the presidential runoff held on October 9, 10 and 11. The organising committee has placed strong emphasis on security and orderly conduct, and called on all attendees to behave responsibly and to treat the occasion as a moment of national unity and pride.

Free transportation will be provided by the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation from various districts to the venue, and Monday October 27, 2025 has been declared a public holiday.
