Cascade Officially Opens R12 Million District Administration Office and Community Centre

VICTORIA, Seychelles — A new district administration office and community centre that will serve the population of Cascade was officially opened during a brief ceremony on Friday afternoon. The building, constructed by Reliance Engineering Limited at a cost of R12 million, was funded by the Seychelles government.

It was President Wavel Ramkalawan and the Minister for Local Government and Community Affairs, Rose-Marie Hoareau, who officially unveiled the commemorative plaque, while National Assembly member for the district, Philip Monthy, had the privilege of joining the President for the ribbon-cutting. Minister Hoareau noted that the project kicked off last year with the laying of the foundation stone in July 2024, followed by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the ministry and Reliance Engineering Limited.

‘Cascade does not only obtain a new district administration office, but also a beautiful community centre. In 2017, a fire broke out in Cascade’s community centre and nothing was done to re-construct the building,’ Minister Hoareau stated. She shared that following the fire, the ministry began seeking funding for the project with the aim of ensuring that the district gets a new building to properly serve the community. District administrator for Cascade, Berlinda Melanie, also expressed her satisfaction at receiving the new building. ‘We are very happy to receive a convenient place to welcome clients. This centre will serve as a space for us to carry out our programme of activities. We’ll finally have a place where we can do things we could not before because of the lack of space,’ she said.

Among those in attendance were Vice President Ahmed Afif, Minister of Investment, Entrepreneurship and Industry, Devika Vidot, and the principal secretary for Local Government and Community Affairs, Kevin Perrine.
