Seychelles Wins First Gold Medals on Opening Day of 13th CJSOI Games

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Seychelles team has claimed its first two gold medals at the 13th edition of the Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien Games. Young swimmer Angelina Smythe opened Seychelles’ account in the 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:48.18, while Anthony Morgan delivered a brilliant performance in the T46 100m visually impaired category to secure the second gold.

Smythe’s teammates also impressed, with Chloe Testa winning three medals in the para-athletics events, having previously shown great strength and determination. The early successes have buoyed the Seychellois contingent, with coaches expressing confidence that the momentum will carry through the rest of the competition.

The Games, which opened on Saturday at the Paradise Arena, are bringing together athletes from across the Indian Ocean region. The opening ceremony was officiated by President Wavel Ramkalawan, who emphasised the values of friendship, fraternity and solidarity between the youth of the Indian Ocean. The next edition of the Games is scheduled to be held in Djibouti in 2029.
