Vice-President Afif Honours Schools at Athletics Championship Closing
VICTORIA, Seychelles — Vice-President Ahmed Afif presented the best secondary school cup to athletes from Praslin secondary at the closing ceremony of the 45th National Inter-School Athletics Championships on Saturday at Stad Linite, capping a week of competition that brought together more than 1,100 young athletes from across the inner and outer islands.
Praslin secondary retained its title in the secondary division, while La Digue primary dethroned Grand Anse Praslin to claim the primary crown. President Wavel Ramkalawan presented the best professional centre cup to athletes from the Seychelles Institute of Technology (SIT) and the Seychelles Business Studies Academy (SBSA), who shared the prize after tying on points. The event, originally scheduled for June 29 to coincide with Independence Day celebrations, has grown steadily in scope and participation over the years.
Officials said the Championships continue to serve as a vital springboard for young Seychellois athletes, several of whom have gone on to represent the country at regional and international competitions in track and field events.
