James Agricole Wins SBL Creole Festival Label Design Competition
VICTORIA, Seychelles — James Agricole is the grand winner of a competition to design a unique label that will feature on Seybrew beer cans and bottles in a limited edition for the 40th anniversary of this year’s Seychelles Creole Festival. Mr Agricole was among four local artists who took part in the competition organised by the Seychelles Breweries Ltd (SBL) in partnership with the National Arts and Crafts Council of Seychelles (NACC).
The three other artists were Frances Chang Him, Juliette Zelime and Angela Marzorchi. They had three weeks from June 10, 2025 to come up with a design for the beer bottles and cans. SBL chief executive Yvonne Mwangi presented Mr Agricole with his winning prize, a cheque for R30,000, in a brief ceremony at the company’s headquarters, O’Brien House, Le Rocher.
Mr Agricole’s painting depicts the traditional, cultural and Creole life of Seychelles and the Seychellois people. ‘I wanted to showcase this kind of Creole environment in my painting. I wanted all to be harmonious with one another,’ he said. The label, apart from featuring on Seybrew bottles and cans, will also appear on other SBL promotional merchandise to celebrate this year’s Creole Festival.
