Seychelles Ports Authority Begins 2026-2030 Strategic Plan Consultations

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Key partners of the Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA) took part in a consultative workshop which served as a platform for them to share their views and ideas in the development of its 2026 to 2030 Strategic Plan, to ensure that the national plans and visions are reflected in the document. The workshop was held yesterday at the Seychelles Trading Company’s conference room, with technical support from the African Development Bank (AfDB).
SPA is currently undertaking the development of its Strategic Investment Plan 2026 to 2030, with the initiative being guided by Rebel Consultancy Group. The consultants have been in Seychelles since June 24, on a three-day mission to meet various stakeholders including private businesses, government agencies and ministries to better understand the needs of Port Victoria when it comes to maritime traffic and logistics. In his address, SPA’s chief executive, Sony Payet, said the workshop marks a key milestone in the process of crafting SPA’s strategic plan for the period 2026 to 2030. ‘This is more than just a planning exercise – it is a shared commitment to shaping the future of Port Victoria as a competitive, smart and sustainable port,’ he said.
According to Mr Payet, SPA is reviewing and investing in physical and digital assets, including heavy-duty equipment, port security, green energy solutions and vessel traffic monitoring systems. ‘As a small island developing state, we face a unique set of challenges, limited economies of scale, climate vulnerabilities and dependency on external markets. These must shape our priorities and risk management approach. Our port must be agile, secure and sustainable,’ he stated. For his part, the principal secretary for Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine, David Bianchi, said the Ministry of Transport recognises the strategic role played by Port Victoria in the national and regional economy.
