East Coast Reclamation to Deliver 320 Industrial Plots in Coming Years
VICTORIA, Seychelles — Some 320 to 330 industrial plots of roughly 800 square metres each are to be released to the private sector in the coming years under the long-awaited East Coast reclamation project, Minister for Investment, Entrepreneurship and Industry Devika Vidot announced at a press conference at the Industrial Estates Authority (IEA) offices in Providence yesterday. The project will roll out in four components and is expected to begin later this year, with completion in roughly six to eight months.
Mrs Vidot said the scheme was designed to address what she described as the persistent challenge of limited land for private-sector development, an issue that successive administrations have flagged as a brake on the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises. The reclaimed land will be served by new infrastructure, including roads, utilities and drainage, and is intended to host light manufacturing, logistics, warehousing and service businesses.
The IEA said the allocation process would be opened to eligible Seychellois entrepreneurs in due course, with criteria to be published in advance. The project forms part of a broader government strategy to free up serviced industrial land and reduce waiting lists that have grown over the last decade. Officials are expected to publish a project timeline and application framework in the coming weeks.
