Seychelles Takes Presidency of the Indian Ocean Commission Plenary

VICTORIA, Seychelles — A delegation from the National Assembly, led by Speaker Philip Mouney, took part in the plenary session of the Association of Parliaments of the Indian Ocean Commission (AP-COI) in Ebene, Mauritius, at the Indian Ocean Commission’s headquarters from May 22 to 23, 2025. Seychelles assumed the presidency of the association for the coming year.
The Speaker was accompanied by Hon. Philip Mouney, Valentina, and other members of the National Assembly. The plenary sessions offered an opportunity for parliamentarians from the region to discuss matters of common interest, including maritime security, climate change, sustainable development, and the strengthening of parliamentary cooperation within the Indian Ocean region.
Member states also discussed recent developments in the region and the role of national assemblies in promoting good governance, the rule of law, and the protection of human rights. Seychelles’ assumption of the AP-COI presidency is expected to provide fresh momentum to the association’s work, with a focus on climate resilience, ocean governance, and the blue economy. The Speaker thanked the outgoing president and pledged to build on the work done during the past year.
