Seychelles Hosts AFROSAI-E Meeting of African Audit Institutions

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Office of the Auditor General is hosting the 2025 meeting of the African Organisation of English-Speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E) at the Savoy Seychelles Resort and Spa, Beau Vallon. The meeting, which brings together Auditor Generals, judges and other senior officers from the respective Supreme Audit Institutions across the African continent, is being held under the theme ‘Future-Ready SAIs: Building Workforce Capacity for Sustainable Economic Growth’.
Also in attendance were Vice-President Ahmed Afif, members of the Finance and Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly led by its chairman and leader of the opposition, Honourable Sabastien Pillay, the chairperson of AFROSAI-E, Nancy Gathunga, and representatives from the diplomatic corps. Also present were representatives of various regional and international bodies such as the INTOSAI Development Initiative, Good Financial Governance in Africa Programme, the Global Fund, the African Professionalisation Initiative, the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, and delegates from Sweden, Norway, Morocco and other partner countries.
In his opening remarks, the Auditor General of Seychelles, Gamini Herath, shared that leading supreme audit institutions around the world are now embracing a new paradigm of constructive audit, which does not only reveal problems but delivers solutions, encourages collaboration, and drives meaningful change. “Coordination and collaboration is essential for long-term success,” Mr Herath said, praising AFROSAI-E for having established itself as one of the best performing regional chapters of the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions global community. The meeting is expected to produce a set of recommendations for the future of audit and accountability in the region.
