Aquaculture Facility Opens with Generous Adaptation Fund Support
VICTORIA, Seychelles — A new aquaculture facility has been officially opened in Seychelles, with generous funding from the Adaptation Fund channelled through the relevant national mechanism. Minister for Fisheries and the Blue Economy Jean-François Ferrari, who delivered remarks at the opening ceremony, said the facility represents an important step in building resilience in the country’s fisheries sector and adapting to climate change.
Speaking to the media, Minister Ferrari said the facility is the first of its kind in the country, demonstrating Seychelles’ commitment to diversifying livelihoods in coastal communities and reducing pressure on wild capture fisheries. The aquaculture project is expected to create jobs, build local skills, and contribute to food security in the long term.
Officials said the facility is part of a wider strategy to develop a sustainable blue economy in Seychelles, with public and private stakeholders working together to develop the value chain, from hatchery to market. The Adaptation Fund-supported project is expected to serve as a model for future aquaculture initiatives in the region.
