Seychelles Commits to Sustainability and Investment at Expo 2025 Osaka

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, officially opened its doors over the weekend, following a grand ceremony on April 13, 2025, attended by Their Majesties, the Emperor and Empress of Japan, along with Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko. The Seychelles pavilion, hosted under the theme “A Paradise Reimagined”, welcomes visitors to experience the islands’ natural beauty, cultural heritage, and emerging investment opportunities.
Seychelles’ presence at the Expo is part of a broader strategy to position the country as a hub for sustainable tourism, blue economy investment, and climate-resilient development. The pavilion features interactive exhibits showcasing the marine environment, renewable energy initiatives, and the work of local artisans. Officials at the Seychelles Tourism Department said the response from the international audience has been encouraging, with strong interest from potential investors, tour operators, and media.
Speaking at a side event on sustainable island development, the Seychelles delegation outlined the country’s commitment to balancing economic growth with environmental protection. The delegation also met with Japanese business leaders to discuss opportunities in hospitality, fisheries, and renewable energy. The Expo runs until October 13, 2025, and is expected to attract millions of visitors. Seychelles’ participation is being coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Tourism Department, in partnership with the Seychelles Investment Board. The country last participated in a World Expo in Milan in 2015.
