Ambassador Tirant Presents Letters of Credence to Italian President and FAO Chief
VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychelles’ resident Ambassador in France, Georges Tirant, last Monday presented his letter of credence to the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, during a formal ceremony at the Quirinal Palace in Rome. The presentation marks Ambassador Tirant’s accreditation to Italy, where he will foster bilateral relations in areas of mutual interest, including climate change, sustainable development, economic collaboration and culture.
President Mattarella commended Seychelles for its worldwide rating on economic and political stability, good governance and peace. He also expressed the country’s commitment to further strengthening its relations with the Republic of Italy. Ambassador Tirant also presented his letter of credence to the Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Qu Dongyu, at the organisation’s headquarters in Rome, becoming the new permanent representative of Seychelles to the FAO.
During his meeting with the FAO Director General, Ambassador Tirant discussed the sustainable use of marine resources and expressed confidence in forging stronger partnerships with the FAO to advance the priorities and agenda of small island developing states (SIDS). The FAO Director General welcomed the ambassador’s accreditation and reiterated the organisation’s dedication to fostering international collaboration.
