President Ramkalawan: Health Workers Are Indispensable Pillars of Strength

VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Wavel Ramkalawan has said that ‘Health workers are indispensable pillars of strength for families and communities’ in a message marking World Health Day and Health Workers Day 2025 on April 7. The President described the occasion as ‘a paramount occasion for honouring the invaluable contributions of health professionals, who are the foundation of our nation’s health system.’

This year’s theme, ‘Health Beginnings and Hopeful Futures’, also reflects the government’s shared vision for Seychelles, where every individual has access to the highest standard of care from the very start of life, setting the stage for a healthy life and a prosperous future. The President emphasised that good health begins long before illness strikes, and that the work of health professionals is central to building a stronger, more resilient nation.

The message comes at a time when Seychelles continues to invest in healthcare infrastructure and workforce development, with recent expansions at the Perseverance Hospital and ongoing recruitment of medical specialists. The government has repeatedly pointed to maternal and child health as a key priority, and the President’s message aligns with broader efforts to position the country as a regional leader in primary healthcare delivery. Health Workers’ Day also provides an opportunity to recognise the dedication of nurses, doctors, allied health professionals and support staff who serve in challenging conditions across the archipelago.
