Seypec Celebrates 40 Years of Energy and Excellence

VICTORIA, Seychelles — As the Seychelles Petroleum Company Limited commemorates its 40th anniversary today, it is an opportune moment to reflect on the company’s noteworthy achievements and contributions to the nation’s energy sector. The Shell Oil Company’s operations in the Seychelles were taken over by the Seychelles Petroleum Company Limited (Seypec), which was founded on April 2, 1985. The goal of this calculated action was to guarantee the country’s energy security and independence. Since its founding, Seypec has been a government-owned company run solely by committed Seychellois employees.
In order to satisfy Seychelles’ increasing energy needs, Seypec has expanded its business throughout time. In addition to local distribution, the corporation has expanded into foreign markets, providing bunkering services to ships and aviation refuelling operations. The growth of its shipping division is a noteworthy accomplishment that demonstrates Seypec’s dedication to regional influence and operational excellence. With the introduction of composite LPG cylinders in 2016, Seypec made the switch from conventional steel to more sophisticated alternatives, enhancing safety, cutting maintenance and freight expenses, and giving customers a more user-friendly product.
Today, the shipping activity of the company is generating significant revenue and represents a vital profit centre, contributing substantially to the nation’s foreign exchange earnings and economic stability. In 2024, Seypec imported nearly half a billion of litres of fuel products, more precisely 481,365,886 litres. 56 percent of this volume were international sales whereas the local market represents 46 percent. As regards LPG, the consumption was 5,371,751 kg in 2024. In celebrating this 40th anniversary, Seypec not only honours its past achievements but also looks forward to a future filled with promise and continued service to the people of Seychelles.
