President Ramkalawan: Francophonie Plays Key Role in Inclusive Education
VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Wavel Ramkalawan has said the Francophonie plays a key role in promoting inclusive and quality education, in a message issued on the occasion of International Francophonie Day, celebrated on March 20. ‘On this 20 March, we celebrate with pride International Francophonie Day, a privileged moment to affirm our attachment to the French language and the values it carries: solidarity, diversity, and dialogue between peoples,’ the President stated. The day is being marked this year under the theme ‘I learn, therefore I act’.
The President said that as citizens become aware and equipped to meet the challenges of the world, there is an invitation to reflect on the importance of education as the engine of development and the individual and collective emancipation of the population. In Seychelles, he noted, education is recognised as a fundamental pillar of society, and through it, citizens are formed who are able to think critically, innovate, and contribute actively to the progress of the nation and the world. The President called on teachers, students, intellectuals, and all education actors to continue making learning a lever for social transformation.
The President also used the message to encourage the cultivation of curiosity, learning without cease, and the use of knowledge to build a more just and lasting future. ‘Together, let us make education a powerful tool to shape a conscious, responsible generation ready to take on the challenges of the world,’ he said. Seychelles joined the international community in celebrating the day, with various school activities, including the first Olympiades de la Francophonie held at Anse aux Pins primary school and another at Persévérance primary.
